Advice for buying EMOTIV devices

<span class="Y2IQFc" lang="en">Hello everyone, I recently discovered these devices and I'm about to buy one. I'm a design PhD student and would like to use it for an experiment.

I have two questions and I'm hoping someone can give me a hint.

If I had to buy the EMOTIV-INSIGHT 2 what else should I buy to make it work? I mean software or other connecting devices.

Are there other lower-end EMOTIV devices I could buy that are still good for brain activity sensing?
