I am looking for advice on how to improve my EEG quality map please. My contact map is at 100%, but the EEG quality is between 0 and 25. How can I improve this figure?

EEG Quality (EQ) has been built to give you an easy way to assess whether you are recording high-quality brain signals or not. Basically, it is a scoring system for the quality of the signal in each sensor. It is not meant to stay at 100% all the time. If you have a lot of movement (artefact) this will affect the EEG quality, when you have other wireless /bluetooth devices near the headset, this can also cause noise and affect the EEG quality.
I have also had this experience with my EPOC X headset. Try to keep still for about 10 seconds and you will see that the EEG quality score will remain good, because there not so many movements. But if you start moving your arms, like to adjust headset or type, it will drop the again. If you can have someone help with working the computer so the wearer of the headset can avoid moving. You can still do your recording despite the fluctuating EEG Quality score. You just need to account for the artefacts and noise when processing your data.

November 16, 2021 at 7:30 pm #742Hello! I am facing the same problem. My EEG quality is between 8 and 25 percent, despite the 100% of contact quality. I tried to use an extended usb cable bbecause my laptop has a built-in bluetooth adapter but the problem remains. Is there any possibility that too much moisture in the contact sponges can cause this problem? I am asking that, because our device (Epoc+) had two years since it was used for the last time. So i had to moist the sponges a lot in order to bring them back to their previous functionality. Please give me an advice because it is really crucial for my experiment.

April 29, 2022 at 12:30 pm #849Hello, when can we consider that the EEG score is good? The wearer of headset will work on a computer during my experiment; can we consider the measuring is relevant enventhough the EEG quality is fluctuating?

<div data-snippet-id=”1367734″>The EQ map is measuring the quality of the brain signal for each sensor, and it takes into account movement, noise, signal amplitude, and many other parameters that make it much more sensitive. It is totally normal for the EQ to flicker and it DOES take time for the signal to settle, so adjust each sensor individually, sit still and wait patiently for 3-5 seconds. If the signal flickers green at any point, it’s likely the signal is good, but it is imperative to sit still to see if it maintains the green.</div>

<div>It is expected that the EQ signal will flicker – this is an indication that we are detecting movement, noise, or other interferences that mean the brain signal is not perfect. To reiterate, it behaves very differently to CQ and it is NOT expected to remain steady at all moments in the recording, particularly if people are not sitting still.</div>

<div>If your sensors remain orange or red, ensure your hair is out of the way, the sensor is touching the scalp and there is enough prime fluid, gel, or saline solution.</div>
