I was interested in opening the discussion about local citation management, and to hear what you thought, and the strategies and favorites you used. Local citation management to any new person refers to the practice that involves creating, managing, and updating of company’s name, address, phone number, and/or web page across the various internet directories, maps, and review sites.

Why it is so valuable is self-explicable since the search engines, such as Google, use it to ensure the legitimacy of the business. Misplaced or old citations may damage your local search traffic, misinform consumers, and even make you miss an opportunity to gain a customer.

Citation management–how do you all deal with it? Do you update your listing manually in a range of locations, or do you apply automated tools such as BrightLocal, Yext, or Moz Local? Have you experienced a direct movement in ranking or customer requests once you have cleared your computations?

On a personal level, I have found it useful to maintain a master spreadsheet of all sources of citations, but I am currently experimenting with whether a subscription-based local citation management service is worthwhile.
